Everybody likes delicious foods. I’ve always been interested in food photography, for many years I had a food blog and was constantly impressed by people like Shutterbean and Joy the Baker sharing their ‘behind the scenes’ tricks about shooting food on the floor, using fake tabletops etc. and I had dabbled with my own baking triumphs, but I never thought I’d end up doing it professionally.
Life has a way of coming full circle, and we have recently started photographing a lot of delicious foods! We were hired to shoot for UberEATS, when they recently launched in Wellington, so we’ve been photographing restaurants dishes for their app, and have enlisted the impeccable eye of stylist Helen Gwyther.
It’s been an interesting learning curve of remembering the trickier technical aspects of photography. Getting the angles & lighting right has been a big challenge, as we’re mostly shooting in natural light with just a reflector. Sometimes we set up in very odd places (like stairwells), and stand on chairs/lean precariously over tables. But it’s all worth it in the end! Look at these tasty foods.
